Frequently used excuses!
We can all find so many reasons why NOT to volunteer, here are some of the things that volunteers who are now contributing regularly to SAFE@LAST have said to us in the past.
- I don’t have enough time to volunteer
-
You can give as much or as little time as you wish and however it fits best with your lifestyle, either regular time slots or on an more casual basis if you can't make a regular commitment
- I work full time so wouldn’t be free to help out in the day
-
We have lots of volunteering opportunities in the evening and at weekends, the helpline needs volunteers until 8.00 pm every night and we also have fundraising volunteering opportunities which are always great fun.
-
- I’m quite an emotional person – I wouldn’t be able to work with runaways without becoming an emotional wreck
-
You don't have to work directly with young people in order to make a difference; there are lots of things that you could do for SAFE@LAST to offer support that would not worry or upset you and would still ensure that you gain 'job satisfaction' from what you contribute.
- I want to help but don’t know what I want to do
-
Just make an appointment to pop in and see Mark and he will be happy to discuss what sort of things you enjoy and how that can help SAFE@LAST, and there is still no commitment, if there really is nothing that you want to do, thats fine - we will thank you for your interest.
- You’re based in Dinnington – I don’t drive so don’t think I can help
-
Many of our volunteers don't drive. We have volunteering opportunities across all four Boroughs of South Yorkshire, Rotherham, Sheffield, Barnsley and Doncaster so please don't let transport prevent you from talking to us. We also have volunteers who do drive who would gladly offer lifts if there is something that you particularly want to attend.
You will have queries, questions and concerns of your own, if you are interested in volunteering, please email Mark or call him on 01909 566977 to discuss. He will be delighted to put your mind at rest.
