We visit schools and deliver assemblies and interactive workshops to young people around the dangers of running away. We also hold corridor events in schools to help promote our services and let children know that there are people they can turn to, there are people who want to help.
Working in schools is a brilliant opportunity to reach young people before they get to a crisis stage. To prevent them from getting into dangerous situations and becoming victims of harm.
Schools volunteers need to be enthusiastic, motivated, outgoing and willing to speak in front of others. Volunteers must be able to work during school hours. Having your own transport is a bonus but not essential.
Jane volunteers in schools on a regular basis, her thoughts are “It gives me great joy to work with children in schools. Some that you meet are such characters! I know that I won’t stop every child I meet from potentially running away, but if something I say stops one child from running, keeps one child safe from harm, well then, that’s good enough for me.”
