Volunteer policy

A high value is placed on our volunteers.  Volunteers of all backgrounds, creeds, spiritualities, race, genders, abilities, health and ages are welcomed and needed within SAFE@LAST.  Volunteers are essential to all aspects of our vital work.  We are committed to giving volunteers the best experience possible and in return have certain expectations of how volunteers conduct themselves.

What you can expect from us

  • All volunteers will be fully supported and supervised throughout their time at SAFE@LAST.  We will respect you as a volunteer and endeavour to listen and learn from what you have to say.
  • All appropriate training will be provided to volunteers. All out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed. This will include travel and childcare.
  • All Volunteers records and any information supplied regarding them will be kept confidential.
  • We aim to have a degree of flexibility in most of the volunteering positions. However there will be times when this cannot happen, for example the start time of a shift on the helpline.
  • We will celebrate success and loyalty with social events for volunteers.  Also allowing them to meet other volunteers.
  • All volunteers will be fully supported and supervised and we will attempt to match the needs of the charity with your skills, knowledge, experience and motivation as a volunteer.
  • All aspects of volunteering will be in line with the equal opportunities policy.
  • CRB checks are necessary for all volunteer roles but the reasoning and process behind them will be explained.
  • Supervision sessions will enable the Volunteer Manager to monitor the degree to which each Volunteer feels their personal support needs are being met.

What we expect from you

  • Volunteers are responsible for maintaining confidentiality of any information which they are exposed to.
  • Volunteers are expected to be punctual and reliable.
  • If a volunteer is going to be absent from their role, they must let SAFE@LAST know with adequate warning.
  • If a Volunteer wishes to resign from their post, again adequate notice is required.
  • Volunteers are expected to attend any relevant training for their roles.
  • To maintain and uphold the good name and reputation of the charity.
  • To co-operate with paid members of staff, to listen and learn from what they have to say to achieve the aims of the charity.
  • To take reasonable care of your own health and safety whilst volunteering and that of others who may be affected by your actions or omissions.
  • To encourage two-way communication with other volunteers and paid staff, fostering a pleasant and friendly atmosphere.
