WELCOME

Volunteering at SAFE@LAST - all that's good!

  • When you become a volunteer for SAFE@LAST you join a community of people who have fun and care very much about the work that they do and each other. This is the atmosphere that we have become accustomed to working within and there is a Volunteer Charter in place to ensure that these values are not diluted, here are some of the things that we think make SAFE@LAST a good place to volunteer:
  • We don’t ‘pigeon hole’ you – you may join initially as a helpline volunteer for example but you can also get involved in helping out at fundraising events if you want to as a one off or several times a year etc – its up to you!
  • We are an award winning and well recognised organisation – we were proud to receive the prestigious Queens Award for Voluntary Service equivalent to an MBE in 2009 and our longest-serving volunteer and founder trustee Hilary Massarella was awarded an MBE in this years new years honours list.

We maintain a commitment to anti-oppressive practices and to recognising and valuing diversity and equal opportunities.

We support you every step of the way from application through to interview through to induction and the application form is clear and easy to complete

  • We work within a good practice framework, for example, having ‘Reach’ achieved which is Youth Action Network,  and indeed share our best practice with other agencies – having produced our ‘good practice toolkit’.

We have close links with the Volunteer Centres in all four Boroughs in South Yorkshire and also national volunteering organisations through which our volunteers benefit from training and networking opportunities.

  • We keep you informed about training and development opportunities as well as the everyday news about other volunteers and what's happening in the organisation through updates and newsletters.
  • We pay for appropriate and agreed out-of-pocket expenses and we make it easy for you to claim them; all you have to do is complete an expenses form and have it signed by a manager.
  • We provide a range of ways in which you can contribute ideas and suggestions
  • We organise regular volunteer celebration and/or social event/s and update our social networking sites on a regular basis.
  • If you are still finding reasons NOT to volunteer check out the answers to these 'Frequently used excuses!' that we've all said to ourselves in the past!
