Clay Shoot

The charity held a superb day of clay shooting as enjoyed by country sports enthusiasts from across the area.

Hosted by The Earl of Scarbrough, at his home, Sandbeck Park, near Maltby, the event attracted over 60 ‘guns’ who shot at some very challenging clays throughout the morning, before enjoying a fine lunch of Pie and peas.

The shooters who ranged in age from 16 to 82 found the competition very challenging although qualified shotgun instructors were on hand to guide the less experienced.  Those attending also had the opportunity to take part in Archery, Target Shooting and Welly Wangin.

The SAFE@LAST trophy was presented by The Earl of Scarbrough to ‘South Yorkshire Police Clay Shoot Team’ who scored 251 captained by David Hartley.  Also taking home silverware was the Braithwell Gun Boys whose team, captained by Steve Muscroft scored 233.  Jamie Flanney took home the High Gun with a score of 48 and the Side by Side Trophy was awarded to George Stone for his score of 37.

Hilary Massarella, SAFE@LAST Founder Trustee said after the event ‘We are very happy that the sun shone and that all the participants enjoyed the shooting. We have again had the use of a terrific venue thanks to our Patron Lord Scarbrough. Our thanks must also go to those that sponsored the event including Yorkshire Crisps, Guy Salmon Land Rover Sheffield, Euroguns and Smith Gore who all contributed to such a successful event.  I’d really like to thank everyone who attended and supported this event; the funds raised will go directly to supporting some of the region’s most vulnerable children.  We look forward to repeating the event next year”
