Chief Constable Meredyyd Hughes

Chief Constable Med Hughes (second from left) joins other judges Howard Webb,

Sue Norton and Tony Bennett at Not So Strictly Come Dancing, Sheffield City Hall

Meredydd Hughes has 30 years service in the Police, the last 7 being in South Yorkshire where he has been Chief Constable for 5 years.

Once a voluntary youth worker in Cardiff, where he also ran the Youth Offender Centre, he has always had an interest in the development of young people.
Occasionally, when asked, he will say that his biggest regret in policing has been the way the service dealt in the past with young runaways, and he and his colleagues often returned them to the local authority homes where we now know so many of them were being badly treated and abused. This motivates him to try and do more now to ensure we look after our children better.

Med is a valued, active patron of SAFE@LAST and as such is a keen supporter of "The Big Sleepout" where he is joined by his son Cameron who has inherited his ability to sleep soundly in a wet cold car park. More recently Med became a Director of our Events Trading Company WEEKEND@LAST and is looking forward to using his business experience to help raise even more voluntary income for our work, despite the recession.
