Parenting Tips
Some things that you may want to try:
- Do: pick your battles – is it really important that they have a tidy bedroom?
- Do: try to see things from their point of view – you were that age once!
Do: behave as you want them to behave; for example, use the language you want them to use.
Do: share your plans with them it might encourage them to do the same
Do: ensure you come home when you said you would
Do: try to remain calm
Do: pay compliments about clothes, hairstyle and music
- Don’t: call them names – you don’t like it!
- Don’t: criticise their friends.
- Don’t: put them down.
Adults and their children often enter difficult periods of their life at the same time. You have both got worries of your own. Ask yourselves - are you taking it out on each other?
