SAFE@LAST is a registered charity delivering services to young people, 16 and under, who are at risk through running away.
The Primary Aim of SAFE@LAST is that every child be heard, giving them the very best opportunity to identify and resolve their issues around running away
SAFE@LAST operates a range of services for young people at risk through running away in South Yorkshire. SAFE@LAST has been successfully operating a Free 24 hour Helpline for young people since May 2004. SAFE@LAST also works in close partnership with South Yorkshire Police to deliver a Missing Persons Scheme in Rotherham, Doncaster, Barnsley and Sheffield. The charity also delivers a Preventative education programme and operates an emergency Refuge for young people.
In offering these services SAFE@LAST aims to:
1. reduce the number of young people who resort to running away as a solution or a response to issues in their lives.
2. reduce the numbers of repeat runaway incidences
3. increase young people’s confidence and empower them to make a change in their lives.
4. increase young people’s knowledge of the wide range of support services available and how to access them to begin to build their own resource network
5. offer independent support and services to young people at risk through running away
6. recognise and meet the needs of these young people and continuously....
7. develop the project accordingly
The successful operation of all our services has highlighted to us the need to ensure other agencies such as Schools, Youth Service, Relatives, Neighbours, Social Services, Health, other Voluntary and Statutory Sector organisations etc are able to refer to SAFE@LAST. In order to achieve better outcomes for young people, SAFE@LAST works in partnership with many organisations. Organisations and individuals can make referrals to SAFE@LAST. Please click here for more information on making a referral.
SAFE@LAST’s involvement with young runaways doesn’t stay with Service Delivery but extends to a strategic level both locally and nationally.
Locally, SAFE@LAST is a key member of the South Yorkshire Runaway Action Partnership and has been instrumental in the recent review of the Runaway Action Partnership Protocol.
Nationally, SAFE@LAST is also a member of the English Coalition for Runaway Children, Tracy Haycox, Strategic Runaway Services Director holds the position of Vice Chair. The Coalition aims to highlight the needs of young runaways to the Government and have recently been involved in developing the Runaway Action Plan.
